Fact-Checked this

NoName is not relenting in its assaults against Canada. The hacker group has been targeting the country for a couple of months. This time, they’ve attacked 8 more targets.

  • NoName attacked the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, CRTC, Canadian Bankers Association, Financial Management Institute of Canada, Quebec Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy, Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat, Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, and the Senate of Canada
  • NoName is attacking Canada because of prime minister Justin Trudeau’s claims that the country would continue to support Ukraine in the war
  • NoName has already launched multiple DDoS attacks against many government institutions in the country
  • The NoName hacker group is a pro-Kremlin hacktivist group that’s likely sponsored by the Russian government

The latest targets to get in NoName’s crosshairs are part of the government’s financial branch. Clearly, the threat actors are aiming for high-impact targets to cripple the country’s industries.

NoName is known for its low-duration DDoS attacks that are more likely to harass and irritate targets rather than cripple their activities, though.

At once point the hackers said that “Every time Justin Trudeau takes the stage, somewhere on the internet, several Canadian websites go down.”

It’s safe to assume that the hacker group will not cease its assault against Canada for as long as the Ukraine-Russia war keeps going.

We don’t know whether the latest Canadian target websites are still down but it’s safe to assume they’re not. NoName typically launches short-lived attacks meant to scare and intimidate.

Our Mission

We believe security online security matters and its our mission to make it a safer place.

NoName History of Attacks

We’ve talked about the NoName hacker group before. Their official denomination is NoName057(16) and they’re a pro-Russian-sponsored hacktivist group with a very well-defined political agenda.

Ever since they’ve made their entrance, they’ve claimed responsibility for major attacks against multiple European countries, including Canada, Latvia, Estonia, the US, Finland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Norway, and more.

Every one of these attacks were politically-motivated, especially in the backdrop of the Ukraine-Russia war. This is especially the case with its assault on Canada.

Previously, NoName has attacked several Canadian airports and multiple government websites (Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Saskatchewan, Province of Manitoba, and Prince Edward Island).

In March 2022, NoName has posted their “Manifesto” in Russian on their Telegram channel but I’ll give you the English translation below, courtesy of Wikipedia.

It becomes clear that the group is politically-motivated down to its core operations and that it will not relent in its attacks against any pro-Ukraine supporters.

We should expect new attacks coming toward Canada from NoName, as they’ll likely maintain their harassment of the country in the near future.
