IPVanish Review

IPVanish offers above-average download and upload speeds. It’s a bit below what other premium VPN networks offer but this difference is negligible. You will be able to watch HD and 4k movies without any buffering issues or loss of quality.

Its fastest servers are located in key countries such as the UK, Canada and the US, where download speeds can reach even up to 200 Mbps. This is more than enough to effortlessly stream HD and 4k movies.

Smaller countries are however a bit problematic where speeds usually reach only around 20-30 Mbps. Now, mind that these are also more than enough to stream HD and 4k clips but some other VPN networks offer much better speeds in these countries too. This is why we can’t give maximal score to IPVanish in this category.

IPVanish connects at around 10 seconds which is normal. I have not experienced any connection drops while using this VPN.

A big strength of IPVanish are upload speeds which can reach even up to 200 and 300 Mbps. Most other VPNs do not focus on upload speeds that much. IPVanish is industry leader when it comes to upload speeds. This is great if you want to use peer-to-peer applications such as torrenting apps.

IPVanish has severs in 61 countries which is around the same what other premium VPN networks have to offer. It has more than 1,000 individual servers, which is definitely much higher than the industry average but still a bit lower than what other top-tier VPN networks offer.

The huge advantage of IPVanish over other VPNs is that it has over 40,000+ individual IP addresses. I believe no other VPN on the market has this many IP addresses. I think that the VPN with the second highest number of IPs has around half the number of IPs IPVanish has.

It does make sense though, considering the name of this VPN network is IPVanish.

The reason why this is extremely useful is because with so many IPs you will almost never experience any server congestions. This also massively decreases the risk of an IP address being detected as belonging to a VPN.

Usually an IP is “detected” to belong to a VPN when a very large number of people are found to use that IP. If a VPN network has a huge number of IPs, then users can be spread around across the existing IPs, which results in few people using the same IP addresses at the same time.

This way it will be extremely hard for anyone (like governments, Netflix, other streaming services etc.) to conclude that an IP belongs to a VPN.

This also means that IPVanish is perfect for Netflix and other streaming services because the risk of IP addresses being blocked by Netflix are extremely low to almost non-existent.

IPVanish is a mixed-bag when it comes to privacy. First, it has a true and real zero-logs policy, meaning that it will not record and log any user activity of any kind, including meta data. This is unlike many other VPN services that do record some data.

This huge when it comes to maximising your privacy and anonymity online.

On the other hand, a huge downside is that it’s legally registered in the United States, which, as you know is not very friendly towards internet privacy.

But while it’s located in the United States, it does have a zero-log policy, so even if they are asked to provide user data to the US government, they will not be able to share any data as they do not record and keep any.

In any case, if the reason you’re interested in using a VPN is specifically to increase your privacy, then there are some other premium alternatives out there that also have zero-logs policies but are not located in the United States or other privacy unfriendly jurisdictions.

But if you want to use a VPN mainly to unblock content such as streaming sites like Netflix, then IPVanish is a top choice de to its very fast servers and massive number of 40,000+ IP addresses, which is something that is not being offered by any other VPN service.

IPVanish is in my opinion easy to use and understand but does not have one of the best looking apps or websites in the industry. The apps and website will get the job done but are not as good looking as many other premium alternatives.

The main dashboard is fortunately very easy to use though. You will see the list of all the available servers and countries and after selecting one you only have to press the connect button. On the settings menu you will see all the advanced options and features offered.

IPVanish has a mobile app for iOS and Android and also works on Mac and Linux devices besides the regular Windows. A downside is that it does not have browser extensions like some other top-tier VPN platforms.

While overall it’s a good platform, it does have some shortcomings, and as such I had to give IPVanish a lower rating in this category.

IPVanish has a 24/7 live chat customer support. I was quite impressed with the live chat support person who I got in contact with. I asked her a pretty complicated and technical question as a test and she was immediately be able to give the correct answer.

IPVanish also has a well-developed FAQ section that answers all the relevant questions in a clear and concise manner.

As such, in this category I’ll have to give IPVanish the maximum score.

IPVanish’s pricing for 1 month is $10 per month, which is a bit cheaper than most other top-tier VPN. Unlike many other platforms it has a 3 months subscription option as well, which costs $8.99 per month, which is $26.99 total. The last option is for 1 year pre-payment which is $6.49 per month, which comes to a total of $77.99.

This pricing is in line with what most other VPN apps have. A potential minus would be the fact that it does not have a 2 year option, which at some other VPN networks would mean an even cheaper per month pricing.

Overall, IPVanish is a great VPN when it comes to torrenting (due to its amazing P2P options) and streaming (due to high-speed servers and over 40,000 IP addresses).
