Is Hulu Available in Australia?

Yes, as part of Disney+. Disney replaced its Star section with Hulu in Australia and New Zealand on 9 October 2025, so the general-entertainment shows that used to sit under Star, plus Disney’s newer Hulu originals, are now under Hulu in the Disney+ app. Disney’s Australian help centre says Hulu content “comes included in your Disney+ subscription“.

The Hulu you may know from American friends is a different product. It’s a separate subscription with its own app, and Hulu says it is “intended for use by members of a single U.S. household“, paid with a US-issued card. Its terms say the service is “only available in the United States and certain of its territories“.

Plenty of guides still say Hulu isn’t available in Australia. They mean the US service, and most of them were written before October 2025.

How to Watch Hulu in Australia

You need a Disney+ subscription and nothing else. Hulu isn’t sold on its own here.

1. Sign up for Disney+ on its website or in the Disney+ app, and pick a plan.
2. Open the Disney+ app on your TV, phone, tablet or computer.
3. Choose Hulu from the brand tiles on the home screen, or search for the show by name.

The ad plan is the cheapest way in. A year of either ad-free plan costs about the same as ten months on monthly billing, so if you know you’ll keep Disney+, yearly is the better deal.

What's on Hulu in Australia (and What Isn't)

Disney’s launch announcement named the shows it leads with. They include new Hulu originals such as All’s Fair and Murdaugh: Death in the Family, existing series such as The Bear, Shōgun, Paradise, Abbott Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy and Modern Family, and Korean and Japanese titles such as Moving and Gannibal.

What you won’t find:

• The US catalogue. Hulu here isn’t the US Hulu library. Disney’s help centre notes that its content “may vary by country/region”, so a show you’ve seen on US Hulu can be missing. A search on JustWatch shows whether it streams anywhere else in Australia.
• Hulu + Live TV. The live channels are a US product. Hulu says Live TV subscribers “are not able to stream in U.S. territories, on U.S. military bases, or internationally“.

Is There a Hulu Free Trial in Australia?

No. Disney’s Australian help centre says “Disney+ does not offer a free trial“, and since Hulu only comes with Disney+, there’s no Hulu trial either. Offers for US Hulu need a US payment method and only stream in the US, so they’re no use here.

Disney also runs limited-time discounts on its yearly plans now and then (there was one in October 2026). They come without a trial too.

US Hulu Subscribers Visiting Australia

If you pay for Hulu at home, it won’t stream here. Hulu says its plans work “anywhere in the U.S. — including Puerto Rico and U.S. military bases“, and Live TV doesn’t work abroad at all. Watching through the US Disney+ app doesn’t get around it either: “Content from Hulu and ESPN are only available to stream in the United States and its territories.”

Disney+ itself does travel. While abroad, Disney’s help says, “you can stream Disney+ content that is available in the country/region you’re in“, so you’ll see what Disney+ offers in Australia rather than your US library. Disney’s tip is to download what you want to watch before you leave.

Can a VPN Get You US Hulu in Australia?

Sometimes, and against Hulu’s rules. A VPN with a US server gives you a US IP address, and Hulu is ready for that. Its help centre says anonymous proxies, “including VPNs“, stop it from verifying where you are, and you’ll see error P-EDU101 (“You appear to be using an anonymous proxy tool”) until you switch the VPN off. IP addresses used for proxies before are block-listed. Its terms forbid “using any technology or technique to obscure or disguise your location”.

Signing up from Australia is the bigger hurdle, because Hulu needs a US-issued form of payment. So a VPN is really only an option for people who already pay for Hulu in the US. If you live in Australia, Disney+ is the straightforward way to watch Hulu’s shows, and it’s legal.

The VPN itself isn’t the legal problem. In Australia, “using a virtual private network (VPN) in Australia is not itself illegal“, LegalVision writes. It calls the law on geo-blocking unclear and says that bypassing a geo-block usually breaches the streaming service’s terms.
